Homestyle Bolognese

Irish beef mince and macaroni in a thick tomatoey bolognese. Carrots and onion are cooked right down into the sauce so you won't spot them but they make it sweeter and richer.

Lean Irish beef mince and red split lentils in a slow-simmered hidden vegetable sauce served with pasta. Bolognese is the dish most children will eat without question and this version uses that trust well. The lentils blend completely into the sauce - no texture no fuss - but they quietly make this the most nutritionally complete pasta dish on the menu. Children are getting a broader range of minerals and the highest fibre content of any pasta dish on the menu. It tastes exactly like the bolognese they already love because that's the point.

Ingredients

Pasta (durum wheat), extra lean beef mince, carrots, red split lentils, tomato puree, smooth hidden veg sauce (tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery, tomato puree, leeks, sunflower oil, sugar, white wine vinegar, grape must, red peppers, salt, pepper, garlic, chillies, rowan berry extract)
